Bidjar small rug
The type of piece that comes along every couple of decades and they are legendary because they would spend such a short period of time with the gallery. The size is so rare, most pieces with this length are 3-6" wide at most. This piece is almost 4' feet wide at 3'-11.5" making it come across as a large bag face. The design is a surreal botanical floral graphic, that just floats and shimmers on the deep indigo ground. The condition is immaculate with the original edges an braided end finishes completely intact. Aside from having 18 knots vertically and 15 horizontally/ 270+/- KPSI... There are a phenomenal, 18 different shades of the finest Kurdish dyes that were available about 116 years ago: indigo, medium blue, light blue, emerald, medium green, light green, red, cranberry, pink, plumb, orange, gold, ivory, brown, tan (possibly undyed wool) and grey also (possibly undyed wool). Taken together, the extraordinary width, surreal botanical design, exceptionally fine Kurdish dyes, high knot density, complete original finishes, and immaculate condition, this is an unusually important and rare example of its type.
