"The principle of true art is not to portray, but to evoke."- Jerzy Kosinski Oushak carpets come from west-central Anatolia, just south of Istanbul, where a great export boom ran from the 1870s to about 1910. Their soft, decorative palettes and generous scale have made them perennial favorites with designers. We offer true Turkish and Anatolian pieces - not the chemically washed "Oushak look" rugs that flooded the market - including a small group of one-of-one revival recreations woven near Konya with indigenous wool and dyes.

Oushaks earn their reputation honestly: large formats, an open drawing that reads well under furniture, and a Turkish sense of color that is hard to fake. The revival pieces we commissioned are New Old Stock - production ceased in 2007, so what exists is all there will ever be.

Are these antique Oushaks or recreations?
Both. We carry genuine antique/vintage Anatolian Oushaks and a small, clearly labeled group of one-of-one revival recreations. We always tell you which is which.
Do you have Oushak rugs in 9x12 or larger?
Frequently - Oushaks were made at decorative scale. Current pieces range past 11x13 and up to oversized gallery formats. Ask and we will send what fits your room.
How is a true Turkish Oushak different from an "Oushak-design" rug?
Genuine pieces use indigenous Turkish wool and dyes and an authentic understanding of Oushak color. Many mass-market rugs merely copy the look, often with poor wool and chemical washing. We help you tell them apart.
