Local service - Marin & the Bay Area
Antique rug appraisal.
With over 26 years of appraisal experience, we help Marin, San Francisco, and Bay Area clients identify, value, insure, and make confident decisions about handmade rugs - whether inherited, collected, or being considered for sale. Appraisal is a local, in-person service; we do not appraise remotely.
How it works
From a photo to a documented value.
1 - Photo pre-screen
Send a few photos. We give a quick read on type, likely interest, and whether a formal appraisal is worthwhile.
2 - In-person review
Bring the rug to the gallery, or arrange a local visit, for a hands-on examination of weave, dyes, and condition.
3 - Written appraisal
Receive a documented value appropriate to your purpose - insurance, estate, donation, or sale.
4 - Next steps
Guidance on insuring, restoring, selling, or consigning - with no obligation.
What we appraise
Inherited a rug? Insuring a collection?
- Insurance appraisals for valuable handmade rugs
- Estate & probate valuation for executors and fiduciaries
- Identification of inherited or unknown pieces
- Guidance on selling or consigning at fair market value
We set honest expectations: not every rug carries high market value, and a formal appraisal requires expert, in-person review. When a rug is special, we will tell you, and why.

Questions
Good to know
Do you appraise rugs by mail or online?
No. A credible appraisal requires hands-on examination of weave, wool, dyes, and condition, so appraisal is offered locally in Marin, San Francisco, and the nearby Bay Area only. We are happy to do a quick photo pre-screen first.
I inherited a rug - where do I start?
Send a few clear photos (front, back, and a corner). We will tell you what we think it is and whether a formal appraisal makes sense for your situation.
What does an appraisal cost?
Fees depend on the type of appraisal and number of pieces. We will quote clearly after the photo pre-screen, before any work begins.
Can you also help me sell it?
Yes. If you decide to sell, we can discuss outright purchase or consignment, locally and at fair market value.
Inquire
Speak with a specialist about a rug or project.
Tell us the piece, the room, the size you need, or the project timeline. We respond personally with price, condition notes, additional photos, video, and shipping or in-home approval details - no pressure, no automated funnel.
